KIN Statement : Recent Far-Right Riots across Britain and Northern Ireland
Dear Friends,
As we experience the recent surge of racist far-right violence, we want to express our solidarity with all impacted communities. The attacks against racialised communities, refugees, asylum seekers, and Muslims are horrific and a direct result of long-standing systemic, state sanctioned racism, Islamophobia, and xenophobia, exacerbated by the British media. This issue reflects the widespread normalisation of Islamophobia, racism and bigotry by many in power who have fueled it and now feign surprise at its escalation.
Our Strategy
KIN offers restorative, strategic and joyful space for Black activists, organisers, and those doing radical work in their communities. This is a space for Black activists and organisers to learn from each other’s experiences and co-create strategies for liberation across geographical location and across movement spaces.
Our Plan
Needs Analysis: We are undertaking a needs analysis, so we can understand the specific needs and concerns of our community during these times.
Resource Sharing: We are asking our Network, what resources are most useful, we will co-create and disseminate these.
Community Care: We are reaching out to space holders across our Network to facilitate spaces for; strategising, solidarity, grief and joy.
Collaborative Networks: We are collaborating with organisations committed to racial justice and collective liberation and together we’re working to co-create a resilient, strategic, sustainable movement for collective liberation.
We take heart in the resistance we have witnessed from communities standing in solidarity and collectively organising against the far-right in order to protect their local communities. These times call for collective care, collective action and strategic responses to support those most affected.
By connecting, building relationships, sharing histories and visions, and facilitating dialogue in Black spaces, we hope to learn, heal, and build collective power.
Love and solidarity,
Kinfolk Network Team
